The GEORGIA VETERANS GROUP, INC., is a not-for-profit veteran and community advocacy group, and it is our purpose first and foremost, to assist veterans, and/or their families whenever and wherever we can. This includes, assistance with VA and Social Security claims, knowledge and information on a variety of issues that plague our families and communities.
The GEORGIA VETERANS GROUP, INC., was established in January 2002, by a coalition of disabled veterans from a post traumatic stress disorder group, at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. We have the unique distinction of being an organization run by veterans in the support of veterans. Having "been there". The GVG recognizes that most veterans are not aware of benefits and services that are available to them and their families. therefore, the GVG acts in an advisory and advocacy role for its clients.
The GVG assists veterans in navigating the complex process of making application for, or filing an appeal for benefits due as a result of military service in accordance with Title 38 CFR. During this process, the GVG acts as advocate for its clients, helping them to ask the right questions of the right people, and advising them when the answers are inappropriate. in addition to researching VA Entitlements, the GVG taps resources with the state and local governments as well as other agencies to assist clients. This also includes claims for Social Security disability.
To date, the GEORGIA VETERANS GROUP has assisted more than 1000 veterans in claiming benefits from the VA. several of our clients live in others states. Where you live doesn’t matter. Much of our work is done by phone!
We are Veterans helping Veterans and serving our communities!
The Department of Veterans affairs (VA), a complex and unfriendly bureaucratic entity, charged with the daunting task of providing services to all Veterans. To add to its complexity, the VA is under funded and understaffed. The best doctors and other professionals have left the VA system because of the under funding. With the sheer numbers of veterans that require assistance, and the lack of available resources, the VA is forced to apply a "band aid" approach, and simply cannot provide all the services our veterans deserve and need, especially now, with the soldiers who will be returning from Iraq and Afghanistan soon! The VA has failed to provide the necessary services to former warriors who served America from World War Two through to the wars we are presently fighting.
"To care for him who shall have borne the
battle, and for his widow, and his orphan"
A. Lincoln
The VA is suppose to be dedicated to carrying out the promise of Abraham Lincoln, but for the past 15 years, the people we elected to represent us, repeatedly cut the budget to the VA system to the point that the system today is near collapse.
Never again will one group of Veterans abandon another!
It is the GEORGIA VETERANS next task, to raise the funds necessary to build a specialized therapeutic residential facility To provide the much needed medical and psychological treatment our ‘newer’ veterans, presently at war, will be needing when we finally bring them home!! We are planning a series of fund raising events that we hope you, the real backbone of America - the PEOPLE - will enthusiastically support!
